Follow these simple steps;
- Click Matters on the left side bar.
- Find New Matter button and click.
- Start selecting Contact for your main contact in this Matter. Or you can add New Contact from the link below the Contact dropdown list.
- Tick the box if the matter is Not a Litigation Matter. It will remove some fields from Matters Members. It will also disable the Matter Stage field.
- Start filling in the fields denoted with red asterisk. Those are required fields.
- Contact
- Matter Name
- Matter Status
- Practice Area
- Matter Stage
- Responsible Attorney
- Originating Attorney
- The rest of the fields are purely optional.
- Populate the information for the Matter Members. If you have ticked the box for this is not a litigation, so two fields will be hidden from you. They are Opposing Counsel and Presiding Judge.
- You can proceed with entering relevant information at Relevant Contacts. You can either select from the existing Contact record, or you can add new Contact from the form itself.
- Proceed with Billing Method.
- Click Create Matter once you have filled up the appropriate fields accordingly.
PERMISSION
You need to either assign yourself or any appropriate group to the matter.
By doing so, only you or the group that you assign to the matter can view the content of the matter.
This is to ensure the privacy and the confidentiality of this matter from anyone in your practice.
BILLING METHOD
There are few Billing Method available on Ligalis;
- Hourly - you charge your billable rate hourly here
- Flat Fee - you charge a fixed fee for the matter
- Mix of Flat Fee and Hourly - you charge a fixed fee plus hourly billable rate for the matter
- Contingency - you and your team share a portion of the monetary compensation awarded to your client by the court
Select the checkbox if you want to bill the client. Otherwise, just leave it blank if you do the case on pro bono basis.
